"Old" friend

In the evening, we were invited by a friend we've known for almost 30 years. We were expecting our first child together and the two girls were close friends when they were small. It was good to catch up. We learnt that one of her child is really struggling, which is why we had not seen her for a while. She was looking after this lovely cat for a friend.
