A bit of a departure

I must have walked past this dead tree twice a day for months and never noticed it: it's on the walk from the car park to the library. Anyway I finally noticed it today, and took this shot almost carelessly as I was in a funny mood after work.

The tree itself was a bit washed out but after deciding it was crying out for monochrome and some fiddling in Photoforge (main contributor being the Clarify filter), it's emerged as quite satisfying.

Chances of me taking anything better today are zip, so I'm posting a bit early for me. Hope you enjoy it.
