BOOM  Back on our map.

My Blip photo shows the front cover of the final report of the BOOM project which came to an end in December 2023.
It was based at the University of Cumbria and existed for four years.
Its aim was to support and reintroduce plant and animal species which has been lost or were in danger of disappearing.
It covered the land area adjacent to Morecambe Bay from Barrow in Furness round to Morecambe. It was funded by a list of charities and official bodies. Its full time staff were helped by hundreds of volunteers and students.

Here is a list of some of the things it achieved:

4,600 Aspen trees planted
69 Hazel Dormice introduced
206 Sundews planted
64 Small Blue butterflies translocated
134 Spiked Speedwells planted
48 Maiderhair Ferns planted
42 Duke of Burgundy butterflie released and 6,000 Cowslips planted for food
185 Golden Asters planted
100s of Green Winged Orchids planted
558 volunteers trained
£203K of volunteer time.

A great success
