Country Mouse

When we were in London last week, I was in a trendy trainer shop lusting after their beautiful shoes. They were mouthwatering pastel shades of pale peach, and pale blue and those sorts of colours.
I said to the assistant that they were very nice but not very practical because  they wouldn’t stay those lovely  colours where I run , with clayey Warwickshire mud, horse manure,  floods and all the rest of it.
He said  that if I was running off-road then it was trail running shoes I needed. 
After a second’s pause I said,  Oh , no that IS the roads!
He looked at me pityingly
