Wide Open Beaches

The beaches in Waikiki are wide open to the public but you need towel cards or room keycards to get towels from a hotel or rent lounges and umbrellas. As you can see even on this very windy day the beach is quite crowded but there is plenty of open space for more visitors. The ocean is wide open for swimmers, floaters, snorkelers, and surfers too; the entrance into the water is gradual so children and older people can easily wade into the coolish water, but as soon as we get completely wet it feels perfect and colder when we get out with wet suits. Today has been even more windy so I have not gone snorkeling but I think I will go down soon and at least go for a swim.  The wind comes in gusts so the photo shows a time when it was a little bit calmer.
