Thursday: Sweet

I’ve been on a bit of a food tour lately.  Following on from yesterday’s blip today I headed up to Orange Walk to look at sugar. 

Orange Walk is about two hours north of Belmopan.  My colleague and I met with some of the sugar cane associations and had a really interesting discussion about the sugar industry in Belize. The main sugar distributor here is American Sugar Refinery who own Tate & Lyle.   So if you see Tate & Lyle on the shelves, it’s probably come from here.

Regarding today’s blip, the sugar mill is pretty ugly.  And it stinks.  A bit like poop.

In other news, we have a visitor.  Our friend, Shachi, has come down from Vancouver for a few days.  We have already introduced her to the delights of Corkers.
