Stormy Weather

There has been a strong easterly wind whipping up the waves and driving them onto our easterly facing bit of coast.

I can hear the constant roar of the breaking surf through the double-glazing.

My blip shows the old crumbling breakwater at Seafield.  There was going to be a second harbour here for the export of coal but it was never completed.

A harbour here was first proposed in 1810.  It was over 40 years later that the project was revived, funds were eventually raised and a harbour wall and breakwater were constructed.  However, a number of factors led to it being abandoned.
a) funds ran out
b) a severe storm breached the breakwater
c) a required rail link was never constructed.
