Floating Moss

My litter picking route took me past one of the rarest habitats in the UK, the floating moss at Black Lake in Delamere Forest.

The land at the far side of the water is not solid but an area of sphagnum moss floating on the acidic lake/bog.  If you're stupid brave enough it's possible to walk on it although you'd need a very good sense of balance!

Obviously Forestry England does not recommend you try it!!
