A dedication to Houblon

We pass this every Monday night and it caught my eye.

The Houblon Almshouses in Richmond are grade II listed buildings built in 1758 for housing poor women. The almshouses were erected and endowed by Mrs Rebecca and Mrs Susannah Houblon 1758 who were unmarried daughters of Sir John Houblon, the governor of the Bank of England and descendants of the Huguenot refugees.

It states in the rules of the almshouses:
"It is ordered that if any of the said poor women shall at any time after their admission be found tippling or drinking in any tavern, ale house or gin shop or in any place where spirituous liquors are sold, for the first offence she will forfeit to the paymaster out of the monthly payment the sum of 4d (1.6p), for the second the sum of 1/- (5p) and for the third she shall be expelled and discharged from the said almshouses by the Governors".

So not a place for those fond of imbibing the amber nectar.
