Valentines’s Day lunch

Changed the custom of recent years by going out to lunch to mark Valentine’s Day.

A local pub has reopened after a refurb in partnership with a local butcher who provides the meat. The place has been nicely done, comfortable and welcoming with the promise of good food.

We both chose the Chef’s Pie of the Day which was lamb and mint. When it came and we pierced the crust and a runny, tasty sauce flowed out. Susan had two pieces meat and I had a little more. The replacement pies were only a little better with just about a tablespoon of filling in each pie.

The pastry was excellent, crunchy and crisp but only that smear of filling and a big gap between the filling and the top. We thought the pies must have been brought in. It turned out they were made on the premises. Our server said he’d have a word with the chef.

The lunchtime offer was two meals for £25 else the pies would have cost us £17 each. Perhaps you had a full filling in a full priced pie? We had high hopes of this new pub so we’re bitterly disappointed by our experience.
