Exploring

Drove up to Inverness airport through rain and low mist to collect T for a few days birthday celebrations for him.
We started our northern adventure by going to see the stone circles and Bronze Age cairns at Clava Very impressive, and provided lots to talk about and look up on Google about making bronze, farming, civilisation spreading by boat etc etc. Went on to Culloden battlefield and despite the weather we spent quite a while at the visitor centre learning a lot about the history, the armaments, family trees and leadership strategies. Fascinating and gruesome…. We had a snack lunch then walked around the very atmospherically misty and damp field of battle…
Drove along the coast to the dolphin centre and were amazed to see (despite me having forgotten the binoculars!) lots of them just offshore, playing in the waves. Just missed the visitor centre as we’d spent longer than we expected at Culloden. Enjoyed walking along the pebble beach and picking our way through the washed up driftwood.
Thank goodness it’s lighter in the evenings now so when we got to BowFiddle rock we could still see it and explore the amazing caves and cliffs nearby. Following some recent instagram posts on exploring Scotland has been very useful in finding places like these…we really enjoyed our day and it gave us loads to chat about.
Drove down to Banchory Lodge hotel over the tops of the hills whilst the sun set…very beautiful. T slept…he’s full of a cold and I suspect having sat in the car with him for a couple of days I’ll catch it!
I’d got a good deal on our rooms and dinner tonight, including getting him a birthday treat four poster room and he was delighted with it…and we had a tasty dinner by the fire and then we played dominoes and Trivial Pursuit before heading to bed. Lovely day-despite the weather!
