Blencathra!

We made it to the summit of Blencathra despite the extremely low level cloud and drizzle, particularly higher up.

Initially we headed for the route taking in Sharp Edge but we were greeted by Mountain Rescue about a quarter of the way along. They were turning people back because there had been an accident in slippy conditions, always better safe than sorry!

So we made our way back down and then round an alternative route to the summit. Great to reach the top even if we had to imagine the views.

We came back down by staying high for a bit to allow for a  skimming Atkinson Pike before walking through a beautiful valley.

A grand day out with time for a stop off in Appleby for good measure in the late afternoon. :-)
