inkface's year

stinking hellebore

A beautiful wild flower with a not very flattering name. It’s a perennial and flowers like this for weeks. I usually blip it every year. I love the delicate crimson edges on the petals.
It silently rained so much in the night that when we got up this morning the road was completely flooded, covering the pavement, and quite a way up our drive. We didn’t hear anything at all in the night even though the window was open. By lunchtime it had all disappeared.
