I only had my phone on me and decided to use the result uncropped and with only minor colour/contrast corrections. The sky really did look this weird, with a pair of googly eyes, although the distortion is all down to the phone. Look carefully to see the Pyrenees, also visible from A's kitchen window. Taken on my way to my book group meeting.

We all enjoyed Maria's choice, Homestead by Rosina Lippi. She reckoned she'd had it on her shelf since about 1998 and hadn't read it till now. It's a series of linked stories set in an Alpine village in Austria, from 1906 till 1972, covering 3-4 generations of two families. No real plot, deceptively simple, but she has amazing skill at drawing believable characters within a few pages, whom you then follow through their lives, growing, changing, still recognisably themselves. A lot more to it than meets the eye.

Back home to catch up with S, who'd been at the bear festival in St Laurent de Cerdans all day.
