shaft furnaces

Trip East out of town to visit the Museumpark Rüdersdorf. Getting there involved taking a tram through the forest (see extra) and a lovely walk along the water. The place is next to a huge active limestone quarry. The site covers a history from the 17th until to 20th century. The absolute highlight is a battery of shaft furnaces that produced quicklime for nearly 100 years from 1874 until 1967. The ruins of the chemical works, VEB Chemiewerk Coswig are also very interesting. Some people were racing drones through the ruins. We returned taking some more trams and S Bahn to Berlin. What a fabulous place. I will certainly return.

New page of photos from the Museumpark Rüdersdorf on my website.
