Silver Mine Mouth

…from the 16th century, in the Modau valley, between Ober-Ramstadt and Nieder-Modau, Hesse, Germany. Its name is “Grace of God”.

A chart informs about the location. In early 16th century first attempts were made to dig up silver ore, and later water powered drainage was installed. The operation costs sadly exceeded the proceeds of the metal, thus leading to the closure of the mine around 1600.

A few years ago the entrance has been repaired.
