Wound up in Wexford

Another day, another concert

We're leading busy lives at the moment - lots of evenings out.

Today we were back in Waterford.  I bought season tickets for the 5 spring chamber music concerts - this was the third.  A young trio, playing mostly 20th Century music, much of it rather more discordant than would be our choice.  But interesting, and they clearly enjoyed their music making, and were extremely skilful.

Here, the pianist was telling us about the piece they were about to play, called Contrasts, by Béla Bartók.  Commissioned by Benny Goodman, to show off his clarinet skills.  I also took a few action shots.  There's a nice view of two of them in extras, but I couldn't get all three into one shot - either the pianist was hidden or the clarinettist was behind the microphone.

They also played - in fact, this was its première performance - a piece written especially for them by the Irish composer Amy Rooney.  The plethora of microphones presumably indicate that they were recording the concert.

Earlier in the day, we took a shopping trip in to New Ross and got new curtain poles for the three rooms decorated this week.
