The Final Touch

On our morning walk...Fletcher and I noticed a commotion high up in a neighbor's palm tree. Thankfully I had my camera w/me! It was a Red-shouldered hawk sitting on a thatch of dead palm fronds and tearing at something in its talons. Encouraged by the prospect of getting a few exciting shots of her consuming her breakfast, I kept shooting. She was ripping dead palm leaves from the fronds, no meal in sight. I kept shooting and finally she took off, right over our heads, with the 'perfect' leaf. I'm guessing that she is using them to line and insulate her nest. I never tire of seeing these beautiful hawks. Happy World Wildlife Day!
