Punting in Cambridge

We woke up to thunder and heavy rain. Gavin took Xena for a run and they both got soaked, so she did not really enjoy her run today. After breakfast we set off for Cambridge, Gavin and I with Xena - Tommy was going to the varsity rugby match in London (Oxford vs Cambridge, this has been played since 1872!) and he was driving to Cambridge after that. Luke and Meriel got the train from London.

It rained all morning, and it was rather cold - Cambridge felt much colder than at home. We had a light lunch at Hot Numbers where we met Adam and his new girlfriend Anna, the first time we have met her - she is gorgeous! As Adam is moving to the USA he wasn't planning on getting involved with anyone but these things just happen! Adam was meant to be moving there in May but it looks like this will be delayed as the current head of his lab wants him to stay on for longer, so there is a negotiation going on between his current lab and the new one. Anna is American and is doing a Masters in Cambridge. After lunch they both went to their respective labs to work, and Gavin and I walked around Cambridge all afternoon.

The rain stopped and we got some lovely light, when I took these photos. I liked the bright pink hat worn by the punter in the main photo. The light on the willow tree in the extra was also so eye catching.

We are now back at our hotel and about to go out with everyone for supper. It will be a very early supper as the runners want an early night.

Xena is so good and has settled into the hotel room. She is such an easy dog to travel with. The hotel had a treat pack for her of doggie biscuits and a water bowl, which was a nice touch.
