Out and About

St Michaels

We're on the very north coast of Cumbria today .  Son R and I are variously walking bits of Hadrian's Wall path,  exploring remnants of the old Carlisle Ship Canal and the railway viaduct that used to span the Solway Firth at Bowness on Solway.   Mr P is acting as taxi where the Wall path is on the road for long stretches.
This is the church in Burgh on Sands. I thought I'd better bring R here because there is not much evidence of the Wall around here.  The church is made of Wall and has a very attractive window dedicated to St Cuthbert.  We also visited a lonely monument out on the marshes marking the place where Edward 1st died of dysentery on his way to quell a rebellion by Robert the Bruce. ] So much history ..
