Picture Perfect Watercress Line

This morning Smithers and I managed to negotiate two tube trains to Waterloo and then a non-stop train to Alton in Hampshire. We’ve spent a lovely day with our son and soon-to-be daughter-in-law, first of all having a tour around their beautiful new home and then enjoying a welcome lunch of home made vegetable soup and artisan bread.

After lunch we went for a walk around the neighbourhood, starting with a trip to the picture-perfect Watercress Line station of Medstead and Four Marks. We saw a steam train arrive, and the volunteer staff in their period uniforms were very friendly, and happy to pose for photographs.

Later our son cooked a delicious supper of sweet leek carbonara and salad, and we are now about to relax until bedtime. It’s been a perfect day, and I’m so glad we managed to get here.
