All About Wallpaper

I visited NT Felbrigg Hall this afternoon, specifically to take some photos.  I was particularly interested in visiting the Chinese Bedroom to look at the wallpaper.

The National Trust have just released a short video about some of the wallpapers at Felbrigg and describe a collaboration with the paint/wallpaper company 'Little Greene' who have recreated some of their wallpapers.  If of interest, here is a link below:

This particular wallpaper was block-printed and hand-painted in China and was hung at Felbrigg in 1752 and is one of the earliest examples of hand-painted wallpaper in the UK.  Obviously, it has faded over time but must have looked vibrant and stunning when it was new.

The video also describes two sisters, Gertrude & Marion Ketton, who came to live at Felbrigg  in 1863 and who both died prematurely.  The cause of death listed on their death certificates correspond to that of arsenic poisoning.  During a roof restoration in 2010, some of the remaining wallpaper that was in their attic bedroom was analysed and was found to contain arsenic.  So very sad.
