We both slept really well on the Doha to Singapore flight. Had good seats (although narrower than on the last flight) with plenty of leg room and the nytol we took kicked in quickly once we were settled with our earplugs in, neck pillows and blankets on. I think I woke briefly once but the next thing I knew it was 5 hours later and we were being served breakfast. Afterwards I dozed a bit and then we watched out of the window as we came in over the Malaysian peninsula towards Singapore. Lots of huge ships moored around it waiting to load or unload and fairly complete cloud cover but lots to look at as we came in to land.
Unlike Doha it was a very quick disembarkation and once we had gone through immigration control and collected our bags we went to look at the Jewel (extra). V’s granddaughter asked her to bring her little bunny toy and take photos of it on our holiday so messed about trying to do that for a while without dropping him over the edge, then ordered a cab via the Grab app and headed for our hotel. Very chatty taxi driver telling us all about the developments in the city (of which he was clearly very proud) and the vision and investment of their political leaders.
We checked in, then V got the surprise of her life when two of her old friends popped out from behind reception’s potted plants! They live in Adelaide now and have been plotting to meet up with her for months whilst we were here but kept it a surprise. Oh my! So nice of them to fly up for a couple of days, but as they said it’s easier than flying back to the UK!
We decided to freshen up then all meet for a walk around the city and some dinner so after we’d settled into our (very small!) room and got showered and changed we set off with them for a wander around the old civic centre area, then down to the river and along to be across from the Marina Sands area in time for sunset and the light displays starting. Non stop chat and lovely to see the contrasting skyline of buildings and all the bustle of activity along the streets and river as we passed by.
We found somewhere for craft beers (I had a rather lovely raspberry one) and some snacks whilst there was more talk of family visits, mutual friends, life in Adelaide, jobs, retirement etc etc.
Lovely evening, then at about 9pm V and I both started to feel weary so we walked home and pretty much collapsed into bed and went straight to sleep.
