Tournament at the RA Centre

Part of the beauty of having kids in sport is that you get to give up your weekend chores to go and watch them play. Such was the case today, as Ottawacker had been chosen to play for the U13s in a March break tournament. I think a few rules were bent, as normally you can’t play up more than one year in these official tournaments… but who’s complaining?

Actually, I almost was. In the first match against OSU, their big yard dog of a striker (touch like a border guard, more hirsute than I) went into a challenge with him with his foot inches away from Ottawacker Jr’s head. As Ottawacker Jr was jumping to claim the ball, you can appreciate how close he came to disaster. Still, it seemed to goad his team on to heights, and they managed to win 13-1. In the second game, against a U14 team from Gloucester, they won 5-1, and in the final game of the day against a team from just outside Toronto (Vaughan Wolves) they won 5-4. They thus qualified for the finals on the following day: they were, more or less, at exactly the same time as the Liverpool vs. Manchester City game, placing me in a somewhat tricky position.
