Abstract Thursday - Patterns

The first of two funerals at church today. Pam was 90, and lived on our road in Tiptree. Until the pandemic, she and two other ladies - Jan and Val - used to sit in the pew behind Mum and me at church on Sunday mornings, and she would tell us how much she liked our hair ornaments (especially Mum’s) because we always co-ordinated them with our clothes. We would often see her tidying and weeding in her front garden as we went past, and always stopped for a chat. You often learn things about people at their funeral that you hadn’t known before, and Pam’s was no exception. She was a founder of the Tiptree branch of the WI decades ago, and was also a parish councillor. She and her late husband ran a butcher’s and grocery shop in the village before his early death in his 60’s. It’s a testament to how involved in village life Pam was that so many people came to pay our respects and say goodbye - the church was full. One of her daughters-in-law is a member of my new bookclub, and another of the group was there because she knew Pam through volunteering. Her family were so loving, another testament to what a lovely person Pam was.

Many thanks to Ingeborg for hosting the Abstract Thursday challenge, with the theme of ‘Patterns’. I’ll let you know tomorrow how I created my pattern.
