Juarez Theater Interior

We had been saving what we thought would be one of the best tours until later in our trip, the Juarez Theater. This imposing structure in the heart of town was constructed between 1872 to 1903 by the same architect who designed the Angel of Independence Monument in Mexico City and is considered one of the most beautiful theaters in the entire country. It is beautiful, as this photo of the main auditorium shows (especially in large), but we were very disappointed that we couldn't see more of it. Most areas were closed by locked metal gates. We kept wanting to see the beautiful finishes and fine craftsmanship close-up, but were continually stymied. I guess that is why things are so well preserved from the early 1900's. We will just have to come back to a performance someday and have the run of the place.
