Halfpenny Gate Road

This is the ruin of a little pub on Halfpenny Gate Road, the pub called Halfpenny Gate Inn.  The clue is in the name, the pub stands on a road junction where a halfpenny toll payment was made at a toll gate.  According to a local resident the pub dates from the 1850s, but I notice that the tiled roof is a much later feature.

I love pictures with a story!
