Parula

I often hear these little warblers but seldom actually see them. Northern Parula songs & calls This is a male Northern Parula. Mature females have very similar color and markings, but only the male has 'black and rusty chest bands'. The female has a beautiful bright yellow throat and chest. Northern Parulas breed from southeastern Canada to the Gulf Coast and winter from Southern Florida into the tropics. This handsome boy was spending some quality time bathing in our bog.
Northern Parulas consume mostly insects but occasionally eat small berries. So keep your ears and eyes 'peeled' for these sweet little birds. m
