A view from Jeanneb

49 years!

What joy, this morning, our 49th wedding anniversary, saw the sun shining. Admittedly a cooler than the last few days but great to see the clear fells and lake without the mist of yesterday.

After a substantial breakfast ( how did we manage that after three great courses last night?) we donned our walking boots and headed up through Patterdale to the hamlet of Rooking, crossing sparkling Rooking Gill and lovely Herdwick sheep on the way. (extra). Hard to resist a sign to Crookabeck farm wool shop but we continued along the path signed the Ullswater Way, ultimately tracing the edge of the lake. The wind was cool but much of the path was sheltered so the sun was quite warm.

The blip shows the view across the lake to Glenridding, the biggest development on the lake. Hidden in the trees is the Ullswater Hotel where we had a drink last night and to the left, just set back from the shore, is The Inn on the Lake where I have booked a meal for this evening.

We continued on the path to Silver Point. We’d seen a route on line that suggested you could circle Silver Crag and return at a higher level, it was also shown on our map but we couldn't see a clear route as so often paths on the fells are just sheep trods so we decided to return the same way.
You can see more of the path in the second extra. The path goes 5.5 miles to Howtown but as the steamers aren’t yet running we thought that would be too far without the ‘lift’ back.. As it was, returning via Glenridding and a welcome bowl of homemade leek and potato soup, we did just over 6 miles which was enough!

Chilling now and sorting out the dates on my photos. I’ve used a camera I don’t often use and I couldn't find the pics when I downloaded them, turns out the camera was set on the correct time and date but the wrong year! As they download chronologically they were way back in my files!

Looking forward to this evening except it will be another walk!
