Butterfly Orchid

Today I hiked up to the one of the highest points in the hills around our village, about 8 kms, where among many common wild flowers I managed to find a few wild orchids. This is Anacamptis papilionacea (formerly Orchis papilionacea), a species in the orchid family, commonly known as the pink butterfly orchid.

These wild orchids are found in Southern Europe and Northern Africa (Spain, Turkey, Serbia, Cyprus, Lebanon and the Aegean Islands). They love dry and stony ground.

A happy one for Flower Friday with thanks to Anni as ever. Have a wonderful weekend fellow blippers.
