Cupani

First sweet pea to flower this season and by chance its 'Cupani'. This is the original sweet pea, supposedly sent to England by a Sicilian monk, Francesco Cupani, in 1699. The seed from Cupani has been sold commercially since at least 1724 and its from this variety that all the others haev been bred. It has fewer and much smaller flowers than the modern Spencer varieties but makes up for it with an incredible strong sweet scent.
