Windmill 'De Hoop', Zevenaar

'Hoop' sounds like and means 'hope'... but also 'heap'.
'Zevenaar' = 'ZEY-vuh-nar'

To go or not to go, and cloud radar was not as helpful as it was intended to be.  Clouds were simply all over the place and constantly on the move, but I noticed that they started congealing in patches, and above some areas, there was a good chance of sunshine.  Wondered the whole time behind the wheel if I was making any sense, but I happened to pick a very promising spot.  Nonetheless, it took almost half an hour of waiting in the car before the sky cleared a bit for pictures.  This gave me a breather anyway, so all good.

This 'Hope' was built in 1850 and was owned for more than 165 years by the Pijnappel family.  'Pijnappel' sounds like and means exactly what you think = 'pineapple'.  I can only imagine an ancestor connected to the trade in pineapples in the ancient days of the Dutch East India Company, which we call here the 'VOC' ('Vereenighde Oost-Indische Compagnie').  And now I'm wondering what his name originally was.  Most likely Jansen, in English 'Johnson', like thousands of others.

The shop directly under the mill is what is called a 'grutterij' ('grutter-eye'), or 'grocer's', but it is not a grocery in the same way we know the word today.  Nonetheless, it sells various items of practical use, some of it to eat (e.g. flour) and some of it to use at home (e.g. tools).  A little to the left is a small cooking studio specializing in events such as office team-building activities, children's parties, and anniversaries, where the guests themselves can prepare meals together and reservations need to be made.  This was the reason it was closed, which is why I couldn't wait inside with a cup of tea.

Enough energy for the hunt, which isn't hard because it's driving, but, technically, my appetite could do with a bit more improvement.  In any case, I had a good night's sleep.  Thankful for a full but 'loungy' day.
