Thomas Paine

Went to Thetford to pick up our hosts from our Spanish holiday as they returned home. Least I could do after the y made our trip so enjoyable.
I was early so wandered around the town a bit. I thought Thetford was famous as the home of Dads Army, most of the filming done here or in Thetford forest. But it has more to offer, it is the birth place of Thomas Paine, the author of The Right of Man, the book he is holding in this statue. His ideas and writings were important in fermenting the American Revolution, remarkably I remembered all this from school.
He also wrote a pamphlet called "Common Sense". If he had any common sense he would not be standing in Thetford High Street on a Monday afternoon wearing a very bright golden three piece suit.
