Last Day in Lisbon

Two contrasting scenes for our last day in Lisbon.

Loved the way Felicity's shirt matched the yellow inbetween the arches on three sides of the Praça do Comércio (the fourth side is the Tagus River). And so good to see sun and blue skies after days of brown, sandy air.

And an appropriate finale for someone about to do a doctorate on sealife - Lisbon's Oceanarium, which never fails to fill me with astonishment - at all the shapes and colours and ways of moving - extras of a shark and the strange sun fish. On the walls, poems by the Portuguese poet, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen:

Era a rota do oiro
Porém nos grandes mares
Ou em praias baloiçados por coqueiros
O espanto nos guiava -
Água escorria de todas as imagens.

It was the route of gold
But on the high seas
Or on beaches rocked by coconut trees
It was wonder that guided us -
Water drained off all the images.
     (literal translation by me)

Gratefuls:
- we are safely home; waiting for news of Paul and Felicity
- two excellent GF and vegetarian meals, at Dear Breakfast in Alfama, and Honest Greens in Parque das Nações
- lovely catch-up with Julia and Tom
