Daisy Jean Smith (nee Brindley)

Today we said goodbye to my wife's late mother, Nanny Jean, 94 years of age at time of death.

There was no funeral, no service, no wailing or gnashing of teeth.

Just a very simple cremation, and a small gathering of close family.

We drank to her memory (tea) and had a two minute silence.

Afterwards we talked about our individual memories and drank more tea.

A little odd but it was what she wanted. No fuss.

The main image is a photo that commemorates her 50th wedding anniversary. With George, her surviving  husband of 73 years. At the time, this image was printed in the local newspaper with a nice write up

The extra is a faded photo of Jean and George, with their first born, daughter Valerie. Taken approximately 71 years ago.

Valerie, my wife's closest and most trusted sibling, passed away over 7 years ago.

A strange, sombre and poignant day.

I am glad it is over...

RIP, Nanny Jean.
