The Stables Fireplace from Castlemilk House

Was at a meeting today 27th in the Stables... I always have to get a photo of this magnificent Fireplace that once stood in the main entrance hall to Castlemilk House... I and my history group tracked this down after it was put into storage in 1969, when the House was demolished.
Castlemilk History Group initiated the search to save the Stables and Discovered the magnificent Fireplace that now has pride of place in the Stables... The long hard fight, which we never gave up on after discovering the whereabouts of the fireplace. And our determination that it should be, once again in Castlemilk, where it belongs.
The Fireplace depicts 'The Battle of Orleans 1429, where two of the Stuart brothers lost their lives. It was built as a memorial to them.

In 1996, with grant assistance from Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Building Preservation Trust was able to remove the fireplace from the water-damaged warehouse of the former Strathclyde Regional Council, where it had languished in pieces after being submerged under 60 centimetres of water when an adjoining river bust it's banks. Fortunately it is made of oak and therefore still in remarkably good condition. From 2001 until 2007 it was cared for in the local Castlemilk Economic Development Agency offices until the Castlemilk Stables restoration was complete.
So, from seeing it in the state we found it in, the warehouse till now, to this, was for sure worth the wait, to see it in all it's glory.
