Wound up in Wexford

By Neatwithice

Good variety

We woke to rain this morning.  Had to don coats to get to breakfast.

Fortunately, we weren't in a hurry, so chilled in our hotel room for a while.  And by the time we were ready to get going, the rain had stopped and the ground was drying up.

We drove a short distance to a car park just north of Zarrentin.   From here, we did a short circular walk around and between lakes.  My back and W's hip preclude anything vaguely ambitious at the moment.

But it was a lovely, gentle walk.  We saw a greater spotted woodpecker, but no time for a photo.  Heard lots of bird song.  Saw great crested grebes, including a pair very briefly doing a courting dance.

Lots of standing water/marshy areas, mossy and decaying trees - was hoping for more interesting bird life.  But no luck.  This tree stump with a variety of different fungi caught my eye.

Back at the car, we continued north around various lakes, finding a rather nice cafe for coffee and cakes.  W has done the driving these last couple of days -  my job is to find pleasant minor roads to drive along.

Mid afternoon we were back in Zarrentin, where W found a cash machine so he could pay our pizza bill from last night, and we charged the car.

Returned to the hotel in rain, but it's dried up again now.

Moving on tomorrow.
