Kilchurn Castle

Our route home took us up to the top of Loch Awe, where we stopped off to walk down the promontory to Kilchurn Castle.

It was a beautiful morning, which made the approach to the castle all the more enjoyable.

It was rather muddy in places, which made it impossible to walk all the way 'round, but you could see each side, and what struck me as odd was the fact there's no archway to the inside, just that door you can hopefully make out. It's the same shape and size as a regular front door!

Anyway, I think it's doing well for a building that's over five hundred years old, and I found a painting of it from the mid-nineteenth century, and it looks pretty much the same!
