The Pensioner

Goodbye Manchester

A final morning in Manchester, so after breakfast at Pot Kettle Black in the Barton Arcade we moseyed round the streets to Afflecks - an emporium of eclecticism, a totem of indie commerce in the Northern Quarter (cut/paste). Nothing for us then. I don’t need any Star Wars figures or sweary word T-shirts. Better luck did attend upon us at the Craft & Design Centre, also in the NQ for there we found a ceramicist with rather lovely half round wall mounted vases with fern illustrations. Tasteful or what, eh?
Good to have a Northern Quarter. This is a new thing, I gather, and I fear Edinburgh is already behind the errr curve here. We have a St James Quarter and a BioQuarter, but we could benefit from more. Granton & Newhaven could clearly form a Harbour Quarter. A good way to divest ourselves of the drably named hinterlands where the poor live. I may set up an Instagram account to make this a reality. That’s all it takes, isn’t it?
