Pays to start early

On Easter long weekends, it really pays to get an early start if you want to ride your bike along the coastal Esplanade.
It was still dark at sparrow’s when we started our bike ride, but was getting light by the time we reached one of our favourite beachside coffee joints.
They’re serving coffee by 6.30am, and breakfast by 7am - which really helps make it one of our favourites.
So we settled in at an outside table giving a front-row view of the beach and all the passers-by - be they walkers, runners, cyclists, swimmers, bathers or paddle board riders.
The paddle-boarder is probably lit as much by the setting moon as the rising sun, but he could certainly see where he was going.
Which presumably would’ve been a bit comforting, given that there have been a few shark sightings along the coast recently, and sunup is one of their favourite feeding times.
