African Jacana

An early start.

We headed off to the Lagoon Hide which is what it actually is - under a lagoon! Spacious with windows at both sides being reached by a low ceilinged concrete tunnel which travelled downwards for quite a way then into the hide with a shoes off scenario. It was well set up with tripods, blackout curtains and water reaching right to the window. The tunnel wasn't great for any one who had claustrophobic issues like Deb who shot down it at a pace just to get out of it.

We saw 13 species of birds. This is an African Jacana, a wading bird with terrifically long impressive toes for balancing on floating vegetation.

The Extra is a striated heron.
