Long legged fly

This fly is tiny. Its body is maybe three quarters of a centimetre long. And what a pretty body - I'm showing a blue one but saw some green and some gold ones too, up in the Sydney Park Community Garden, whose keepers are doing a great job of encouraging bug diversity.

It's in the genus Dolichopus which contains 600 species. They feed on soft bodied invertebrates and serve as control agents of many pest species. So we like them.

Thanks for hosting JDO.
