Life's Little Moments

Mum and Young

I honestly couldn't make a choice today - we saw so many wonderful things and I ended up with about 6,000 images on my cards by the end of the day.  I scrolled through as quickly as possible and landed on this image of a mom rhino with her baby, who is less than 6 months old.  We watched as they headed to a mud wallow and covered themselves with red mud by rolling around (now, there's a sight to behold).  When they got out, they headed to some brush to browse which is when I got this shot - the mud is still wet and you can see that both are completely covered.  What a special thing to be able to watch creatures like this going about their business.  The youngster seemed curious about our jeep, but mum was keeping him close and we were giving them plenty of distance.

Other highlights of the day were vultures, pied crows, giraffes, hippos and monkeys, to name just a few.  Tomorrow morning we have another game drive and then tomorrow night is our last night in the overnight hide.  All too quickly, our trip is nearing an end, but we intend to squeeze every bit of fun out of it before we head back to Durban on Friday.

Thanks for coming along.
