Arnside

Unfortunately, you hear a lot about the number of pubs and chip shops that are closing. It makes me sad to hear these significant parts of our society being eroded.

Amid the gloom, though, I look at the success that Bob has with his pubs in Liverpool, and then there is Arnside chip shop.

Abi and I arrived there about six-thirty, and were warned before we placed our order that there would be a 45 minute wait. Indeed, there must have been thirty or forty people there, all waiting for their orders.

We placed our order and went back to the car to wait. Our view was across to the viaduct, which is out of use at the moment due to a train derailment on the 22nd of March*.

Our order was ready pretty much bang on time, and we ate it in the car. It was excellent: no wonder the chippy is doing such good business.

*Caused by a sinkhole that had allegedly been reported to Network Rail two days before the accident. A whistleblower from Network Rail sent the report to Tim Farron MP. This was reported on a couple of Cumbrian news websites but I've not seen it elsewhere.
