Secret Edinburgh Catch Up

A bit of back blipping is required to catch up especially as it is a damp and chilly Friday afternoon.
I seem to be cherry-picking the easy to get to subjects for my Secret Edinburgh project and I will get on with more subjects when the weather ever gets out of the current extended winter profile.
This lighthouse model above the door of this George St premises indicates the headquarters of the Commissioners of Northern Lighthouses (created by Act of Parliament in 1786) The entire range of lighthouses (all now automatic since 1998) lightships and other electronic systems are monitored and controlled from behind the facade of this Georgian building. There are 208 lighthouses from Muckle Flugga in the north of Shetland to Chicken Rock on the southern point of the Isle of Man and Barra Head on Berneray in the west to Buchan Ness at Peterhead in the east. Almost all the significant lighthouses were designed and buit by the ‘Lighthouse Stevensons’ in the 1820 – 1850’s.
