Maybeetle

Today we enjoyed the almost summer evening. It was already dark when we heard a loud buzzing. It turned out, that a Maybeetle tried to get through our mosquito net in order to reach the light.
Of course we let it through to get a closer view on it.
I hurried for a torch and called for Dora, the Hanulli photographer. She loves all creatures and she was really excited to see the giant beetle.
It turned out, that it was a very clumsy one. Most of the time it tried to reach the torch, but mostly ended struggling lying on its back.
After Dora ( and I) had finally got her photo, we sat it back on the other side of the mosquito net  :-)

Maybeeltes make their appearance usually end of April and in May.
They have a 4 years long life cycle and the last massive appearance was 2022 in our region. So it is much too early and we are curious if we will see a lot more of them.
You can find more interesting details of Maybeetles or Cockchafers on Wikipedia
