While on my runs

Braving the wind and rain

In planning for this trip, S had booked us on a boat trip to visit a well known geological site. Last evening the provider contacted her to say that they were cancelling the bookings due to the weather. Having had that happen when we were here for my Class reunion, I wasn't that surprised. By this morning the weather in Kororareka was unpleasant, and we were told that in less sheltered places the Bay of Islands was unsafe for sailing in most areas.

This morning we were informed that the other booking for today was also cancelled; a guided tour as passengers on a motor tricycle. We replaced the motortrike tour with a small bus tour in local areas. We were taken around historically interesting places, including high above Kororareka where was the flagpole which Hone Heke cut down three or four times to remove the British flag.

My blip shows S taking a photo from nearby the flagpole (no flag was flying because of the strong winds). We visited the Kororareka museum, and then the Pompalier Mission buildings. The guide for the latter, made the tour very interesting and informative.

(NOTE: I have also posted a back blip for yesterday)
