Eyes Left

I've never seen swans on the lake before now, so I was somewhat stunned this morning when this pair showed up. However graceful they may be, and certainly look, these are mute swans, which it turns out are non-native to North America and were introduced by European immigrants.

Although not hunted, mute swans are classed as an undesired species and managed (whatever that means) to control numbers. That might explain their scarcity and when I turned back to look again, they had already managed to leave.
