IT'S FLOWER FRIDAY

Today's submission is a flowering White Shamrock (Trifolium repens); not to be confused with the Yellow Shamrock (Trifolium dubium).  It EASY to tell them apart........one has white flowers; the other yellow  DUH!

Truth be told, the real name for this plant is Oxalis regnellii which makes it one of the wood sorels that are native to South America, so named because of the concentration of Oxalic Acid in the plant.

There's a lot of conflict over which plant is really the prototypical Irish Shamrock.  This is the plant that has the typical leaf shape associated with shamrocks.  The Yellow Shamrock has 3-leaves (Tri folium) but the shape is not the same as this typical plant.  For more information if you are really into this sort of stuff, check the link:

We don't have many plants flowering around here yet....shoot, the ground was snow covered only a few days ago.  However, my wife's birthday is the same day as St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) in the U.S. and her sister-in-law always gives her a pot of shamrocks.  This is it and it flowered nicely as they always do...just in time for me to make a photo for Flower Friday.

BEST IN LARGE.
