Again and Again

Packing fail

The main reason for our group trip was.to complete a parkrun in Poland.  We had arranged to meet in the hotel reception at 7.50 and walk to the park together.  At around 7.15 I realised that I had not packed my running tights or tshirt.  This oversight was added to the list of 'unfortunate events' for the trip so far:
Elaine had to pay an oversized bag fee and has purchased a replacement case for less than the fee to take it home.
Adele thought that we were going home on Sunday and had to rearrange dog care and child transport when she discovered the mistake,
Yvonne thought that we were doing an event beginning with the  'Z' that she needs for her parkrun alphabet.
Fortunately I wasn't overly bothered if I ran or walked and to have the decision taken away from me was.fine.  As it was really warm too, I'd likely have opted.to walk.
We were among the first to arrive but were soon joined by lots of other tourists.  The event has been happening for longer than our Maldon one and the team.were very organised with a welcome brief in English provided.
There were several other walkers and I was very happy to follow a lady in a red top with nordic poles as it was not the.most straightforward course.
We went through several tree lined avenues and I spotted a red squirrel in the grass at one point which was a real treat as I have never seen one in the wild before.  The park was busy with walkers, dog walkers, families, roller bladers and cyclists and the route meant that you could see other parkrunners at various points.  We also passed aeroplanes and tanks, rows of tulips, a magnificent ornamental lake,  At the finish we were invited to join the local organisers at a cafe afterwards and once there, enjoyed pancakes or crepes.  I had a mango smoothie and a salmon, cheese and spinach pancake.  Very tasty.

The rest of the day was a slow meander back towards the hotel, punctuated by stops for coffee, beer and icecream.

We timed our return to make sure that we were in the town square for 3pm when 2 goats emerge from the clock tower in the main square (they also make an appearance at midday)  The legend has it that they saved the city and they are a popular theme on souvenirs signage  and art across the city.  There were several hundred people gathered for the appearance so that, if not the goats, was quite a spectacle.  We also managed to visit the bronze goat statues nearby and encouraged Adele to sit on them for another photo.

Dinner was at one of the many restaurants in the square.  We had to have two tables as we wanted to eat outside and the restaurant wouldn't allow us to put tables together. It was a lovely meal though and a real treat to eat outside in early April.
